Pupils unveil signed plaque for new school

Thursday 25th March 2021

Tuesday 23 March, saw the (socially distanced) unveiling of the signed plaque by the Harris family and teaching staff onsite at the new Chilmington Green Primary School.

In order to adhere to current Covid guidelines, the event was low key and included the Harris family, who were the first children to apply for and attend the newly created Chilmington School, currently located within temporary teaching accommodation, along with Mrs Flack, Headteacher, Mr Scott, Assistant Headteacher and Kent County Council’s Project Manager, Fran Dampier.

BBS had provided the school with the steel plaque during lockdown and children and teaching staff were invited in to the school at pre-arranged times to enable them to safely sign the plaque, prior to it being delivered to site.

Now marked with around 100 signatures, the steel plaque will be mounted into position on the highest steel beam within the internal structure of the building and will remain in situ for generations to come.

Speaking after the unveiling, Mrs Flack, Headteacher said: “Thank you for inviting us to the new school site yesterday. Thank you so much for the goodie bags which you gave the children. I know the children were in awe of everything yesterday, but know they will be telling their friends today! Robin, my tour around our new school was brilliant to see the hard work from everyone on site. We cannot wait to move in!”

Chilmington Green Primary School is due to handover in the summer of 2021.
